Mamaprenista and Owner/CEO, Cassidy Cabral, on New Motherhood Boutique

Marion-Willis-12

Hello Cassidy! Please share a brief introduction about yourself.

Hi! My name is Cassidy Cabral and I am the Owner / CEO of New Motherhood Boutique. I am a mom of 3 and know first hand the ups and downs that come along with the fourth trimester. Motherhood is hard, having cute and functional clothes makes it just a little bit easier. Everything in my boutique is postpartum body & nursing friendly.

So Cassidy, what excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?

I am passionate about helping others and am very excited to learn from other entreprenistas as well as offering what advice I can. I believe that when we work together we all win!

What made you take the leap to start New Motherhood Boutique?

I faced the familiar frustration of looking into my closet and having nothing to wear. I was newly postpartum, recovering from a C-section and nursing my daughter. I had nothing that I felt confident in. At this point I realized that if I wanted this to change, I was going to have to be the one to do something about it. I wanted to set the example for my children that if you want something done, you don’t have to wait for someone else to do it.

What was your background prior to starting your own boutique?

HR and Operations. I worked in the non-profit sector for most of my 20’s and then moved over to ecommerce. My second child was born in January 2020 and at that point I decided to take a step back and focus on my family.

So Cassidy, did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Yes! I come from a long line of small business owners.

Marketing a new business is so important! Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out?

Honestly, I was flying by the seam of my pants and making it up as I went along! I didn’t realize how hard marketing would be and how many conflicting pieces of advice were out there.

As an entreprenista, who do you lean on for your support when challenges arise?

That my support came from unlikely places. Some people I assumed would be very supportive ghosted me, and others came out of the woodwork to lift me up. I was not expecting that! I learned to trust my own judgement and not rely on the opinions of others.

Cassidy, you have so much to celebrate! What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

When my first customer sent me a picture of her nursing her baby while out at brunch. For the first time she felt confident in her postpartum self, was able to comfortably feed her baby and she began to feel like herself for the first time in a long time. Brings me tears when I think about it. As a mom, that feeling really hits home.

As a mamaprenista, do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

Yes! I believe work/life balance is absolutely crucial! I focus my mind on what I’m doing at that time. When it is family time, it is family time. When I’m working, I’m working. I set timers for myself to stay motivated. My husband and I have a date night once a week, at home, where we make a nice dinner after the kids are in bed. We have 3 young kids, so we don’t have many babysitter options. This way no matter how hectic things get, we have that time to reconnect and focus on ourselves.

What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?

Be your own council. It is your business, for better or for worse. Before you take someone’s advice or criticism make sure that they are living the life / running the business that you would want. Find people that want you to do well. Connect with other small business owners.

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

I’ve been accepted into 4 holiday markets in my area in the next two months! These markets are hard to get into so this is very exciting.

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

I am working on building my business to be a one stop shop for everything motherhood related. Whether you are bringing your first baby home, or sending your final one off to college, I want to be there to support moms and provide what styles and accessories they need and want.
