Brooke Bailey on Her Mission to Normalize a World in Which All Female Business Owners can Experience Success without Sacrificing Their Health

Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:

I help high-achieving female CEOs grow their businesses and double their impact through simple but profound daily practices that enable them to refocus their energy, rest, and gain an ongoing sense of balance and stability in every area of their lives. My mission is to normalize a world in which all women business owners can experience success without sacrificing their health.

What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?

I’m excited by the opportunity to meaningfully connect with other women business owners who want to make a positive impact. So far, it’s been great to give and receive support with fellow Entreprenistas. I’ve connected with women all over the country in workshops, on the Circle platform, and via LinkedIn. I’ve already had several “get to know you” virtual meetings with fellow Entreprenistas and I look forward to more in the coming months.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

I burnt myself out in a family business and knew that there must be a better way of living and working. I set out to equip and empower women to grow businesses that not only maximize financial impact, but also allow them to live with purpose without sacrificing their health, values, or peace of mind.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I traveled, lived, and worked across the globe before starting my own business. Since I was a teenager, I’ve had a desire to learn from other cultures and to help each other see how we are all connected by our common humanity. As I studied, worked, and met people from both the East and the West I realized that there was a space to integrate the wisdom of Western business approaches with Eastern wellness philosophies. I completed my MBA in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management and began exploring ways to bring people together by removing cultural barriers and building bridges of shared knowledge that could help us achieve greater understanding of ourselves and others.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Yes.

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out, and did it go as planned?

I put a heavy emphasis on online marketing via social media. It didn’t work because I was spending so much time building email and social media campaigns that I didn’t have time to build stronger relationships through meaningful conversations and listening to what people needed at the time.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?

My biggest challenge was trying to offer wellness solutions for everyone without specifying what I was really good at. It took me a year to do the market research and pivot from a generalized approach to a specialized program that not only harnesses my expertise in western business and eastern wellness techniques, but also allows me to build deep and meaningful relationships with my coaching clients.

What is the accomplishment you are the proudest of to date?

My persistence to forge a different way of doing business that isn’t built around sacrificing your health or relationships.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

I believe that work/life balance is best perceived as a verb, not a noun. Experiencing a sense of balance in both your work and personal life is an ongoing practice, not a static point in time. To me feeling balanced means that I am connected to my own inner stability in a way that allows me to deal with life’s curve balls without getting completely overwhelmed, thrown off track, or sick. My best tip for experiencing a sense of balance is to recognize that until you get clear on what you want your life to look and feel like, and then go at least one step deeper to build a strategy around practicing consistent behaviors that support what you value, work/life balance will likely feel elusive. Clarity of what is most important to you, building simple habits with the support of a guide and community, along with the refinement of your behaviors through reflective self-awareness is a process that supports feeling balanced as life changes. I teach my clients to implement this system every 90-days to live with greater ease and balance at the office and at home.

What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?

My advice is to approach your productivity holistically, taking your whole being into consideration, not just the goals you have for your business growth. Many of us begin our entrepreneurial journey believing that sheer effort will create success. As a result we may get caught in the hustle culture and be distracted by “shiny object syndrome”. When what is really needed is to stay focused on building revenue generating and time saving systems for our business. While the early stages of building a business may require you to spend more time on work, eventually you learn that driving your business at the expense of your health simply isn’t sustainable. Your health is the most valuable asset you have as a business owner, especially if you are a solo-preneur or have a small team. Your physical and mental stability is key. You may have left another job to create a greater sense of autonomy and freedom by starting your own business. If you aren’t leveraging daily systems that support both your productivity at work and your ability to recharge, you’ll likely end up with the same levels of stress and burnout you experienced when you worked for someone else. Once you are clear on what best supports your health, join a like-minded community of people making similar changes. As women, we can support each other in growing our businesses while maintaining our health and relationships. It doesn’t have to be “all or nothing.”

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

Over the next few years I plan to deepen the impact of my coaching program Balanced Business, Balanced Life Blueprint. I am looking forward to being a champion for female entrepreneurs as we change the norms of western business culture. It’s exciting to support a movement away from the hustle culture and toward women building deeper business relationships that will have a lasting positive impact well beyond the balance sheet.
