Megan Murphy of LOUMI Skincare on being patient in business

Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:

Hi everyone! I’m Entreprenista League member Megan Murphy, the Founder of LOUMI Skincare, an all natural, vegan, cruelty free, paraben free, sulfate free skincare line. I launched my business in October of 2020 after multiple experiences with stressed out skin.

What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?

I love being an Entreprenista League member because it has connected me with so many female founders. There is so much knowledge within this network and it has been so helpful to gain other perspectives on different aspects of business.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

It has been a dream of mine to work for myself in an industry I am passionate about. When the pandemic hit, I used the the time at home to finalize my business plan and launch my company.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

Medical Device Sales!

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

I struggled in the beginning with marketing and running paid ads. I have learned so much since I launched about where to put my money and on what platforms. It takes a while to learn the analytical side of things, but now that I understand so much more about marketing, I am excited about the growth LOUMI is experiencing.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?

When I first launched, I was having a lot of problems with packaging. It was a process to find bottles that were waterproof and available immediately during the pandemic.

What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

The decision to launch LOUMI myself and stick with it. Starting a business and learning every inch of it on your own can be very humbling but also very rewarding.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

I absolutely believe in a work/life balance, which is why I have always wanted to work for myself. I think stepping away and exercising or doing something to take your mind off of work can be very helpful. I like to take mini vacations!

What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?

To be patient. Good things take time and often overnight success is unrealistic. I struggled with that in the beginning because I love instant gratification.

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

Launching on Amazon, Walmart, Ecosmetics, Safe&Chic and Inside Outer Beauty Market. We have a few more launches in the works so I am very excited to share that soon as well.

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

To expand beyond beauty products. I have some really exciting things I am working on and hope that I can bring my ideas to LOUMI as soon as possible.
